13 Sep 09 - BREWING UP TRIBUTE TO RAF HEROES

A "Brew for The Few" raised over £185 for the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA) Wings Appeal. The tea party, organised by the Civilian Committee of 58 (Harrogate) Squadron Air Cadets, and held at the RAFA club in Harrogate on Sunday, was hailed a great success as guests gathered for tea, sandwiches, cakes and shared memories.

The Mayor of Harrogate, Coun Pat Jones, was guest of honour at the event, which immediately followed a commermorative service at the Yorkshire Regional Airmen's Cemetary at Stonefall.

Chairman of the RAFA Harrogate Branch, Brian Wilkie, said "It was a super occasion. Lots of people came along, from the air cadets of 58 Squadron to WW2 veterans, ex-airmen, soldiers and Wrens and serving members of HM Armed Forces.

"There was a lovely atmosphere and, of course, all the money raised will go towards the Wings Appeal. We will definitely be organising more next year."

The Brew for The Few Tea Party was one of many nationwide parties organised to raise funds for the annual Wings Appeal and keep it flying high.

Each September The RAF Association hold their national Wings Appeal to commemorate the Battle of Britain and the sacrifices made by British forces.

The appeal allows them to continue their support of those who are serving or who have served in the Royal Air Force and their dependants.
